Farms and the food safety act: Most farmers are considered to be running food businesses, which the act describes as "any business in the course of which commercial operations with respect to food or food sources are carried out".

This means farms are subject to the improvement and closure procedures outlined in paragraphs 79-82 of the food safety act. If farmers sell food directly to the consumer, they are subject to the act's provisions relating to the sale of food.
